Milwaukee officer Kendall Corder lost his life — City in mourning

**Milwaukee Mourns Fallen Officer Kendall Corder**

Reflections for Police Officer Kendall Isaiah Corder, Milwaukee Police Department, Wisconsin

The  Milwaukee community gathered in solemn tribute this weekend for Officer Kendall Corder, who died June 29 from injuries sustained in an ambush shooting while on duty. The 32-year-old officer served with the Milwaukee Police Department for six years before his tragic death.

**The Fatal Ambush**

On June 26, Corder and his partner responded to a domestic violence call near 25th and Garfield. As they exited their vehicle, gunfire erupted without warning. Officials described the attack as a deliberate ambush, leaving both officers critically wounded before they could react.

**A Partner’s Survival**

Officer Christopher McCray, Corder’s 29-year-old partner, survived gunshot wounds to his back and foot. He attended Corder’s memorial procession just days after being released from Froedtert Hospital, walking with visible support from colleagues.

**Rising Violence Against Officers**

Corder became the sixth Milwaukee officer killed in the line of duty since 2018. His death marks the fourth officer shooting in Milwaukee this year alone, with three occurring in just the past two weeks.

**Suspect in Custody**

Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tremaine Jones hours after the shooting. Records show prior legal issues involving a stolen vehicle, though formal charges for the officer’s killing remain pending.

**Legacy of Courage**

The police department remembered Corder as the embodiment of bravery, stating: “He put his life on the line each time he put on the uniform.” His sacrifice now joins  Milwaukee’s painful history of officers fallen in service to their community.
